Papers from Venezuela come few and far in between, so when the opportunity is there, we certainly jump. In the early nineties, we were importing small sheets from there made by Zulay Herrera which were exquisite. Hemp and flower petals were her favorite materials, and you may remember the sheet that was available in white and peach with cocuiza leaves.
Looking at the thumbnail on the right, it certainly appears that cocuiza is alive and well in Caracas. The paper is much heavier, comes in a variety of colors, and keeping with the ecological consciousness of the region, uses recycled materials as well. Basic sheet size is 19.5" x 27.5" with weights varying between 90 gsm to 200 gsm. We are told that the paper is laser and ink jet compatible. Production capacity is approximately 200 sheets per day.

Most papermakers in Latin America have a profound respect and concern for the environment. And it is most apparent in their work, since they use organic waste, recycled materials, leaves, stems, - in short, anything but wood pulp. The base of these papers comes from the recovery of office waste paper to which are added various types of vegetable fibers, floral petals, sisal (hemp) which is a great strengthener, corn husks and the like. The sheets themselves do present remarkable uniformity despite the fact that they are handmade. All drying is done outdoors, thus no fossil fuel energies of any kind are used.
The uses for the papers are multiple and enhanced by their suitability to modern printing techniques by laser or ink jet.

THE PRODUCTS
Lettersize Handmade Paper Pack
HANDMADE PAPER PACK
Though handmade, these sheets are guillotine cut, and thus have no deckle edges. They measure 11.7" x 8.3", which is the European A4 size. They can be had in our standard 8½" x 11½" on special order. Made in 145 gsm, they are ideal for printing business cards, small art works, laser printing of graphics or text, flyers, embellishments, stamping, letterpress printing and stationery.
The package is available in either 12 sheets or 20 sheets of assorted or one color. Please specify when ordering.
HANDMADE ARTIST BOOKS
Each book is perfect bound, and the spine is reinforced with impermeable fabric. The front of the book can be custom printed to represent any image, thus lending itself to corporate logos, marketing campaigns and such. Fifty two, lined Kraft paper make up the interior of the book, and the inside covers are also Kraft. The sample we received showed the compatibility of the paper to graphic laser printing. Size is 8.8" x 6½".
HANDMADE MINI ALBUMS
These mini albums have a window front cover, and are embellished with various types of graphics on the window face. The window may be left blank for photos. The window is 4 cms squared. The albums are sewn with decorative sisal (hemp) fiber cord going through the perforations of the cover. One of the options offered is double "O" metallic ring binding. Inside covers are covered in Kraft, and 50 unlined Kraft pages make up the contents of the album. This can be substituted with bond paper, if so desired. Size is 5½" x 4½".

HANDMADE POCKET NOTE BOOKS
All pocket note books are hard bound and covered in handmade papers, with different graphics which can be altered to suit the taste of the buyer. Here again, the choice of binding can be natural, using the hand process of weaving the sisal cord through the perforations, or the double "O" ring for a spiral look. Please also bear in mind that the cover does not need to be printed.
Inside covers are made of Kraft, as are the 50 inside, unlined sheets; these sheets can also be changed to bond if need be. A lovely gift or a promotional item in size 6.1" x 2.7".
HANDMADE SPIRAL JOURNALS
Each journal is a generous 8½" x 5½" and is bound with hard covers front and back. Faced with handmade paper and printed with decorative images, which can be changed on request. Here, the inside cover can be either a Kraft paper calendar, or any of the handmade papers offered in the line.
The inside pages are unlined Kraft paper, or can be substituted for 60# white bond for recording memories. The usual binding is the handmade sisal cord weaving. The double "O" ring spiral binding is available. Also, the binding can appear either at the side of the journal, along the 8½" side, or horizontally, along the top edge.
